Textbook Question
Chapter 3, Problem 3IA.4Q
Draw the Lewis structure for H2O. Show the polarity of the bonds on the structure you drew using the dipole moment arrow. Considering that the shape of H2O is bent, do you think that H2O has a dipole? (In other words, is there a side of the molecule that is more negative and a side that is more positive?) If so, indicate this to the right of your structure using the dipole moment arrow.

For each of the following molecules, draw the correct Lewis structure, label each polar covalent bond with a dipole moment arrow, and determine if the molecule is polar or non-polar.
CH3Br
HI
SiO2
CH2O
Also, could you explain how these charges work for a clearer understanding of this concept?
Draw the structural formula (with lone pairs) for the two molecules, water (H2O) and isopropanol (C3H8O). Draw a dipole arrow to show the direction the electrons are being pulled and label the areas of partial positive and negative charges.
Note: the bond between C and H is NOT POLAR. Do not draw dipole arrows or partial charges for those bonds.
For the following ionic compounds, draw the Lewis symbols for the elements and, using arrows, show how electrons are transferred to make the ionic compounds. Also show the final ions formed and the formula of the ionic compound.
a) aluminum chloride b) barium sulfide
