The series of photos above shows you plant cells when looked at with a light microscope. The first image is taken with a 4x objective lens. We always look through an ocular lens (eyepiece of a microscope) which in this case has a 10x magnification. This means tha the total magnification for the first image is 40x (meaning 40 times as big as you could see with the naked eye). The second image is using the 10x lens, with a total magnification of 100x. The third image is taken using a 40x objective, with a total magnification of 400x!
