To explain:
The reason of different vegetations in Alaska, Fairbanks, Arizona, Tucson and plains of eastern Montana in spite of having same annual rainfall.
Introduction:
Vegetation refers to a term that is used for the plant life in a given area. It depicts the ground cover which is provided by the plants. It is also considered to be the abundant element of the biosphere.
Explanation of Solution
Vegetation serves multiple functions in a biosphere. It includes the following as follows:
1. It helps in regulating the biogeochemical cycle’s flow like the flow of nitrogen, carbon or water cycles.
2. It affects the characteristics of soil that consist of soils texture, volume, and chemistry.
3. It also serves as an energy source and habitat for various species of animals.
4. Vegetation is essential for humans as humans are dependent on them for shelter, vegetation, medicines, and food.
There are multiple factors that affect vegetation of an area. It includes temperature, rainfall, soil quality, sunlight, latitude or altitudes, level of lands and many other things. In the areas of Alaska, Fairbanks, Arizona, Tucson, and plains of eastern Montana there is same annual precipitation, but still, there is variety in their vegetations. Hence, it can be concluded that due to various other factors mentioned above, the vegetation of these areas would have formed, so there is variety in the vegetation of these areas.
The reason of different vegetations in Alaska, Fairbanks, Arizona, Tucson and plains of eastern Montana in spite of having same annual rainfall is the various factors that contribute towards vegetation of those areas.

- Tree Rings and Droughts El Malpais National Monument, in west central New Mexico, has pockets of vegetation that have been surrounded by lava fields for about 3,000 years, so they have escaped wildfires, grazing animals, agricultural activity, and logging. Henri Grissino-Mayer generated a 2,129-year annual precipitation record using tree ring data from living and dead trees in this park (FIGURE 27.23). FIGURE 27.23 A 2.129-year annual precipitation record inferred from com pled tree ring data in El Malpais National Monument Now Mexico. Data ware averaged over 10-yeer intervals; graph correlates with other indicators of rainfall collected in all parts of North America. PDSI, Palmer Drought Severity Index: O, normal rainfall increasing numbers mean increasing excess of rainfall decreasing numbers mean increasing severity of drought A severe drought contributed to a series of catastrophic dust stem's that turned the rid western United States into a oust bow between 1933 and 1939. 1. Around 770 A. D., the Mayan civilization began to suffer a massive population loss, particularly in the southern lowlands of Mesoamerica. The El Malpais tree ring data show a drought during that time. For precipitation, you will need to look at figure 2.2, which has annual precipitation numbers in centimeters. Then compare them to the monthly precipitation numbers in the graph, which are in millimeters. It may be helpful to add up The graph numbers and convert that number to centimeters in order to determine the Biome. Average temperatures are also represented on figure 2.2. Answer choices A.
