Explanation of Solution

Vegetation serves multiple functions in a biosphere. It includes the following as follows:

1. It helps in regulating the biogeochemical cycle’s flow like the flow of nitrogen, carbon or water cycles.

2. It affects the characteristics of soil that consist of soils texture, volume, and chemistry.

3. It also serves as an energy source and habitat for various species of animals.

4. Vegetation is essential for humans as humans are dependent on them for shelter, vegetation, medicines, and food.

There are multiple factors that affect vegetation of an area. It includes temperature, rainfall, soil quality, sunlight, latitude or altitudes, level of lands and many other things. In the areas of Alaska, Fairbanks, Arizona, Tucson, and plains of eastern Montana there is same annual precipitation, but still, there is variety in their vegetations. Hence, it can be concluded that due to various other factors mentioned above, the vegetation of these areas would have formed, so there is variety in the vegetation of these areas.

Conclusion

The reason of different vegetations in Alaska, Fairbanks, Arizona, Tucson and plains of eastern Montana in spite of having same annual rainfall is the various factors that contribute towards vegetation of those areas.
