Summary Introduction

Zika disease is a type of viral disease which is caused by Zika virus. This is transmitted by the vector (mosquitoes), but other modes of transmissions are also present such as through sexual contact, by contaminated blood and from mother to fetus. Zika virus infects the neural cell that forms the cerebral cortex (intellectual capacity is governed by this part of the brain) which results in the brain defects in infected newborns.
