Introduction:

The thin, flattened blade that provides surface area for absorbing sunlight and carbon dioxide is a leaf. The petiole attaches the leaf to the stem. Leaves develop on sides of the apical meristem of the shoot. There are several layers of the leaf tissues. The outermost layer is the epidermis and beneath it, the mesophyll layer is present.
