Chapter 3.4, Problem 1E
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

All the qualitatively different vector fields for x˙ = rx +4x3 that occur as r varies are to be sketched, the value of r  at which pitchfork bifurcation occurs is to be determined and the bifurcation is to be classified as supercritical or subcritical. Also, the bifurcation diagram of fixed points x*vs r is to be sketched.

Concept Introduction:

The stability of the dynamical systems can be studied using bifurcation.

In pitchfork bifurcation, the fixed points appear and disappear in symmetrical pairs.

There are two types of pitchfork bifurcation, one is supercritical and another is subcritical.

In supercritical bifurcation, a stable fixed point is present and after changing parameters it becomes unstable and two new symmetric unstable points generate.

In subcritical bifurcation, an unstable fixed point is present and after changing parameters it becomes stable and two new symmetric stable points generate.

What is the flux of the vector field (x2,y2,z1 ) through a cuboid with x ranging from 0 to 8.3, y from 0 to 9.2, and z from 0 to 2.1? Show this via the divergence theorem.
Calculate the divergence of the scalar field F(x,y)=3x2+siny.
Compute the flux of the vector field F =2xi +3yj through the cylindrical surface shown below, if a=3 and b=8 and it is oriented away from the z-axis. Answer is not 20pi.
