Question
Chapter 36.5, Problem 3MC
Summary Introduction
To define:
Altruism and also explain why evolution should select against it.
Concept introduction:
There is a general assumption that all behaviors are selfish, that is they increase the fitness of the individual at the cost of others. The natural selection also favors such behavior, but problem lies with the unselfish behavior that increases the fitness of other individual at the cost of self. It is ironical that how such behavior has been maintained in nature.

- How is variation different from adaptation? * Variations are physical or behavioral traits that make an organism better suited to its environment while adaptation comes from random mutations. no answer Variation is a difference within an individual organism from the rest of the population. An adaptation is a feature that helps an organism survive in its environment. Adaptation is a difference within an individual organism from the rest of the population. A variation is a feature that helps an organism survive in its environment. Variation is always caused by mutation while adaptation is a heritable trait. Since your mother listens to classical music to relax, you wonder whether cows listening to classical music would make more milk. You have 40 cows.
