To determine:
How does cyclosporine prevent rejection of transplanted organs.
Introduction:
Cyclosporine drugs are given to the patient who undergoes organ transplantation. Cyclosporine is responsible for the inhibition of cytokine secretion which stimulates helper T cell to divide and proliferate to induce an immune response against nonself cells.
To hypothesize:
A hypothesis to explain the phenomenon that why patients who received cyclosporine following transplants develop various kinds of cancers many years later.
Introduction:
To reduce the risk of organ transplant failure cyclosporine drugs are given to the patient who undergoes organ transplantation. It inhibits cytokine secretion which is responsible for the stimulation of immune response. But after many years these patients develop cancers.

- A textbook on cancer contains the following statement: Fundamentally, cancer is a failure of the immune system. Why does this comment make sense?arrow_forwardWhich of the following statements is _false_ regarding phagocytosis? A. It can ingest large particles. B. It involves the projection of pseudopods. C. It is used by amoebae to ingest food. D. It is mediated by clathrin at the plasma membrane. E. It is used by macrophages and neutrophils to ingest bacteriaarrow_forwardWhich of the following is a function of cytokines? A. Promote antibody invaders. B. Help T cells recognize invaders. C. Attract white blood cells to a possible invader. D. Destroy cancer cells.arrow_forward
- in a diagram put the cells that would first respond to a skin infection, and how the bacteria would escape the innate immune system and turn into a systemic infection and what cells would strath responding after the innate immune system failsarrow_forwardHypothetically, HPV was used to cure cancer where the cancer was recognized to be foreign by our host immune response. So therefore, which of the following best illustrates how HPV was used to cure cancer?a. The HPV induced a type IV hypersensitivity immune responseb. The HPV induced a type III hypersensitivity immune responsec. The HPV induced a type II hypersensitivity immune responsed. The HPV induced a type I hypersensitivity immune responsee. The HPV induced a type IV autoimmune responsearrow_forwardMany of the inflammatory mediators produced by tissue macrophages at sites of infection act on the endothelial cells lining the blood vessel walls. An exception to this is (are) the: Cytokines that induce increased vascular permeability Chemokines that induce directed migration of blood monocytes Cytokines that induce increased expression of adhesion molecules TNF produced by tissue-resident sensor cells Bradykinin produced that causes painarrow_forward
- What is shown in Diagram 1 ? What will the activated T cell do next?arrow_forwardCancer cells evade immune surveillance. What "strategies" can cancer cells use to escape NK cells?arrow_forwardAn experimental animal is given a drug that blocks phagocytosis. Will this drug prevent the animal’s immune system from killing foreign cells via the complement system?arrow_forward
- Explain why each choice (a-d) is correct or incorrect. All but one of the following occurs during the inflammatory response. Select the example below that does NOT describe the process of inflammation. a. Inflammation increases capillary permeability. b. Chemotaxis draws leucocytes to the site of injury. c. Vasoconstriction prevents excessive blood loss due to injury. d. Release of prostaglandins results in pain.arrow_forwardA researcher is investigating a drug to prevent organ rejection; this drug selectively inhibits TH cells. How would this help to prevent rejection of a transplanted organ?arrow_forwardPatients carrying specific mutations in the gene encoding the TLR4 protein are susceptible to infections from Gram-negative bacteria. Why are these patients vulnerable to this particular type of pathogen?arrow_forward
