Introduction:

Various experiments suggest that the stimulus of flowering originates in the leaves. There is a signal that originates in the leaves when it is exposed to a critical period of alternate light and darkness. This signal then travels from the leaves to the bud meristem and starts a signaling cascade that makes the meristem differentiate into flowers.
