Explanation of Solution

In this study, the students want to perform an experiment to determine whether Brand A or Brand B deodorant lasts longer.

Thus, in this experiment there are some flaws that are since all of one group got a certain type of deodorant and the other group got the other type, and it has been established that male and female bodies respond differently to deodorants, we do not know which type of deodorant is more effective. We also do not know how much each person sweats, their diet/health, and level of activity throughout the day which may influence the effectiveness of deodorant.

(b)

To determine

To describe how you would design the experiment and explain how your design addresses each of the problems you identified in part (a).

Explanation of Solution

In this study, the students want to perform an experiment to determine whether Brand A or Brand B deodorant lasts longer.

For this experiment we will use the matched pair design of the experiment to perform for the brands of deodorant. As performing the experiment as a matched pairs experiment would help to identify the effect of the deodorant. Each person sweats a different amount and has a different lifestyle so it would be more effective to compare the deodorants using the same person.
