Chapter 4.4, Problem 3CC
Summary Introduction
To determine: The function most important for cellular
Introduction: All living organisms are formed of cells. Cells consist of various cell organelles enclosed within a plasma membrane. Plasma membrane consists of a phospholipid bilayer with proteins embedded in it and surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell. Plasma membrane regulates the import and export of material across the cell. It is also involved in cell-cell signaling and cell-cell adhesion.

Hello, May I get help with this physiology question?
Question: Zoe S has been feeling really tired lately and so she went to the medical doctor to see what's wrong. The medical doctors run some tests and tell her that she's developed a disorder where many of her enterocytes have started using glucose as the main substrate for glycolysis. She knows a little bit of cell biology, and she doesn't understand how this could possibly be a bad thing. Zoe asks you for some guidance. You tell her… (see image)

- The hormone insulin enhances the transport of glucose (sugar) from the blood into most body cells. Its secretion is controlled by a negative-feedback system between the concentration of glucose in the blood and the insulin-secreting cells. Therefore, which of the following statements is correct? (a) A decrease in blood glucose concentration stimulates insulin secretion, which in turn further lowers blood glucose concentration. (b) An increase in blood glucose concentration stimulates insulin secretion, which in turn lowers blood glucose concentration. (c) A decrease in blood glucose concentration stimulates insulin secretion, which in turn increases blood glucose concentration. (d) An increase in blood glucose concentration stimulates insulin secretion, which in turn further increases blood glucose concentration.
