Chapter 47, Problem 2NERQ
Summary Introduction

Interferons are the type of cytokine proteins. The important properties of interferons are antiviral, anticancer, and immunomodulating. The various interferons such as alfa, beta, and gamma interferons are mainly used to treat certain classes of cancer and viral infections. Interferons are normally present in the body to regulate the immune system. Interferons promote the activity of other immune cells, such as natural killer cells, macrophages, and neutrophils. Activated T-cells and other immune cells produce interferons in response to the viral infection. However, the recombinant interferons are given to the patient to boost the immune function.
