Which of these statements about air bag sensors is not true? Roller-type sensors rely on a roller held in place with a magnet. The circuit is closed when the roller moves and strikes the spring contact. Mass-type sensors rely on a ball and a magnet. The circuit is complete when the ball makes contacts with the electrical contacts in the sensor. An accelerometer contains a piezoelectric element that generates an analog voltage in relation to the severity of the deceleration forces. An accelerometer also senses the direction of an impact force.

Which of these statements about air bag sensors is not true?

  1. Roller-type sensors rely on a roller held in place with a magnet. The circuit is closed when the roller moves and strikes the spring contact.

  • Mass-type sensors rely on a ball and a magnet. The circuit is complete when the ball makes contacts with the electrical contacts in the sensor.
  • An accelerometer contains a piezoelectric element that generates an analog voltage in relation to the severity of the deceleration forces.
  • An accelerometer also senses the direction of an impact force.

    To determine

The incorrect statement about the air bag sensors.

    Explanation of Solution

The air bag electrical system includes impact sensor and electronically control module. The air bags activate only when an outside also known as an impact sensor and an inside sensor are closed. These sensors are mainly divided into three types; they are:

    1. Roller type: The roller type sensor is shown in the figure. It shows the position of sensor when it is at rest and when in motion. These sensors have a coiled type roller fixed from one end and the coiled spring is held by a roller weight. The other spring contact is placed at the other end of the ramp. When the system activates during an impact, the weight is removed and the roller moves up the ramp and strikes the other contact thus completing the circuit and the air bag opens...
