Chapter 5.2, Problem 1AYLO
Summary Introduction
To discuss:
The characteristics that distinguish the epithelium from the other three primary tissue classes.
Introduction:
Epithelial cells are sheets of adhering cells that cover the body surfaces, cavities in the form of internal and external linings of body organs, and tissues of glands. The main functions of the epithelial cells are protection, secretion, absorption, excretion, sensation, and filtration. Epithelia consists of three classes namely simple (one layer of cells), pseudostratified, and stratified (consists of 2 to 20 layers of cells).

1.Six (6) important characteristics of epithelial tissues. List these characteristics and describe why they are important for the function of epithelial tissues.
One way to distinguish between epithelium and connective tissue under the microscope is that connective tissue is more densely cellular than epithelium.
True or False
Epithelial tissues are widespread throughout the body. They cover all body surfaces, line body cavities, and hollow organs, and are the major tissue in glands.
Can you explain the different functions of epithelium tissue in our body in detail?
