Chapter 54.3, Problem 3R
Summary Introduction

To review:

The life history strategies that are characterized by Lobelia telekii versus Lobelia keniensis, and life history strategies of guppies in high-predation versus low-predation stream sites.

Given:

The Figure 1 represents related species of genus Lobelia, which have taken different forms in different regions.

The predation of guppies at high-predation and low-predation stream sites in Trinidad affects their population, as represented in Figure 2.

Figure 2: Life history of guppies get affected by predation in stream sites.

Introduction:

Life history strategies of different populations differ at species level and population level. Life history strategies vary among two species of Lobelia due to their different habitats and environmental conditions. In case of guppies, the levels of predation make difference in their life history strategies.

Give at least two keystone species in the Philippines with their scientific name , illaborate each of what their contribution to the environment is, and what would happen if they are removed from the environment.
In the Introduction, the authors set the stage for their experiment. What ecological issues were facing Yellowstone National Park when wolves were no longer there, and how were the researchers going to test the questions they wanted to ask?   In 4 – 6 sentences, summarize the Methods section of this paper. One of the questions the researchers asked when they began their experiment was “With wolves now back on the Yellowstone landscape for 15 years, how has the reintroduction of wolves affected the recruitment of the woody browse species?” Use data from the Ripple and Beschta paper to support your answer.   In any scientific paper, the Discussion is often the most hard-hitting, and where researchers elaborate and explain their results in the context of their experiment and the real world. Explain why when researchers tried culling some of the elk herd it did not have trophic effects, while reintroducing wolves did have trophic effects.   Describe the multiple impacts of wolf…
