To analyze:
In the given case, a high school student is preparing to qualify for high school track meet at the state level. She is going through a strenuous running regimen daily for several hours. She experienced intense pain in her right leg. Upon visiting a doctor, a bone scan of her leg was ordered after finding no external injury. Determine result of the bone scan of Taryn’s leg.
Introduction:
The leg has femur and tibia-fibula bones in the thigh and lower leg regions, respectively. An injury or fracture of these bones affects the strength of the legs and pose a hindrance in performing any task such as walking or running. In this case, the doctor ordered a bone scan rather than an X-ray. An X-ray detects a crack or fracture in the bone, which is more of a superficial nature. A fracture is evident from the intensity of pain and the structure of the concerned body part.
