Cancer is a condition that occurs when cells replicate or copy themselves. Uncontrolled cell division causes the cell to pile up to become a lump or tumor. A tumor is a clump of cells that do not have a function. Tumors that remain inside the body and do not affect the surrounding structures are known to be benign. Others become cancerous if they attack the tissues around them and become metastatic or malignant.
