Chapter 60.2, Problem 4EQ
Summary Introduction
To determine: The relationship between species richness and ecosystem function that supports the results.
Introduction: Ecosystem is defined as the interaction between the living (biotic) and nonliving (abiotic) components present in the environment. These interactions are important for the proper flow of nutrients and energy in a system. Different organisms of the ecosystem contribute in a different way and richness or absence of any one species have a great effect on the functioning of the ecosystem.

Which of the following statements best represents the productivityhypothesis regarding species richness?a. The larger the area, the greater the number of species that will befound there.b. Temperate regions have a lower species richness due to the lack oftime available for migration after the last Ice Age.c. The number of species in a particular community is directly relatedto the amount of available energy.d. As invertebrate productivity increases, species richness will increase.e. Species richness is not related to primary productivity.
