Chapter 7, Problem 4PIT
Summary Introduction

To explain:

Why a mutation in DNA sometimes causes protein function to change.

Concept Introduction:

Mutation is a sudden unpredictable change in the sequence of DNA. It causes alteration of DNA sequence. Mutation involves the substitution of DNA bases and deletion or insertion of DNA bases. It is also caused by mutagens such as exposure to certain chemicals and radiations.

Students have asked these similar questions
Explain the relationship between DNA sequence, amino acid sequence, and protein structure and function.  Then explain what can happen to the protein when there is a mutation in the DNA sequence.
DNA is a chemical that cells use to store information. Describe how information is encoded in DNA, and what this information actually represents.
Explain the process of Transcription and Translation. List three antibiotics and explain how these antibiotics inhibit the protein synthesis.
