Summary Introduction
Cough is considered as a sudden, common reflex action that clears the mucus or other foreign irritants in the throat. The cough may be caused by a number of a medical condition such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, and gastroesophageal reflux. Usually, cough is produced by the stimulation of sensory receptors of the vagus nerves, glossopharyngeal, and innervating the mucous membranes of the smaller airways and lower larynx, pharynx, and trachea of the respiratory system. However, clinically, there are a number of drugs are used to treat a cough, for example, antitussives.
