The difference between pyrolysis and gasification.
Explanation of Solution
Pyrolysis is the process in which combustion takes place in the absence of oxygen. It is the thermal method of decomposition at high temperature in a nonreactive environment. This method is mainly used for decomposition of organic waste. Generally, the organic substance is volatile in nature so, during pyrolysis, they leave the solid material and gets evaporated at an elevated temperature which is enriching in carbon and charcoal.
Gasification is the process in which the organic matter is decomposed in the presence of oxygen at elevated temperature. In this process, organic matter is disintegrated into hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. The product of this process is used as a renewable source of energy.

- A 1,200 gpm WTP is being designed for treating iron and manganese. The influent manganese concentration is 80 mg/L and the iron concentration is 90 mg/L. How much oxygen (mg/L DO) from aeration is needed for design? Assuming that aeration only removes 85% of Fe and Mn, how much potassium permanganate is needed (mg/L)? Design standards require 30 days of chemicals onsite. Assuming that the chemicals onside are dry, how many lbs of potassium permanganate are required? If the treatment plant is to operate two filter cells at a time, what is the required SA of each cell, assuming SOR of 2.5 gpm/sqft?arrow_forwardPlease choose the correct answer for each question: 1.
