Concept explainers
Why can Muhammad exert a greater punching force with his bare fist than he can while wearing a boxing glove?
To Explain: A greater punching force can be exerted with bare fist as compared to that exerted with wearing a boxing glove.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The change in momentum or the product of force and time interval is called impulse.
The hand with glove takes more time to stop because person throws consistent punches with same speed. As a result of it, they are is a lower impulse but when punches are without gloves, there is large impulse as the force is stopped in a short time span. So, there is a less impact time and large impact force with the bare fist.
Conclusion:
Hence, a greater punching force is exerted with bare fist than with a boxing glove.
