The empirical formula of mercury oxide is to be calculated.

Concept introduction:

The empirical formula is the simplest whole number ratio of the atoms of the element present in the compound. The empirical formula is determined by two methods.

• Experimental synthesis data

• Percent composition

Percent composition is mostly used to determine empirical formula. In this method, after calculating the moles of each element in a compound, the mole ratio is simplified to a small whole number.
