The array of medical devices spans a wide range of possible properties and characteristics, including disposable or reusable, rigid or flexible, clear or opaque, good lubricity or good grip, able to dispel static electricity, able to be sanitized or sterilized, biocompatible, antimicrobial, or even bioabsorbable. Plastics, both traditional and new, are being used in a number of medical applications.
- Use the Internet or other information source to identify some of the ways in which plastics are being used in medical applications. Consider prosthetics, implants, patient and surgical apparatus and equipment, and others.
- Using the same sources, try to identify a medical application of plastics that is still in the development stage, and discuss its claimed advantages.

- State one application of plastic product where polymer is the only material class to provide the desirable properties to help in product design and overrides the properties of metals or ceramics.arrow_forwardWhen answering the following questions , ensure that you explain in terms of both the microscopic and macroscopic structure of the materials. A) polymer - explain the difference in structure between a thermoplastic and thermoset material and explain how the structure accounts for the key generic properties of those polymers. B) composite material - for a particular composite and a fibre reinforce composite , explain the difference in structure and whst structual features dictate the properties of the material.arrow_forward4ac (simply answer the question) 1.Simply explain the differences between pendant and stiffening groups in polymers. 2.
