Concept explainers
The definition of prime factorization, the process to find prime factorization of a monomial and use of prime factorization to calculate the GCF of two or more monomials.
Explanation of Solution
Prime Factorization can be defined as the process of finding the prime numbers that when multiplied to each other give the original number.
In order to find the prime factorization of a monomial, divide the number with the first prime number i.e. 2, keep dividing until there is a remainder or a decimal, then keep dividing by 3, 5 and other prime numbers until the numbers left are only prime numbers.
After this, write the original number as the product of these prime numbers.
To find the GCF from the prime factorization of the numbers, identify the common terms in the given two or more monomials. Then multiply these common terms to finally get the GCF.
