The location and names of the auditory ossicles, location and features of the hyoid bone, and the functions of these bones.
Introduction:
The auditory ossicles are bones that are found in the middle ear cavity, and they are viewed as associated with, but not belonging to, the skull. There are three ossicles associated with each ear. The hyoid bone is another bone viewed to be related to, but not an integral part of, the skull. The hyoid also suspends the larynx through the broad ligament, and it attaches to several muscles controlling the mandible, tongue, and larynx.
