Chapter 9, Problem 12SQ
Summary Introduction

Introduction: Transcription is the process in which the nucleotide sequences of a gene are transcribed into mRNA sequences which code for proteins. This marks the beginning of gene expression. In all species, transcription initiates through binding of RNA polymerase enzyme at the promoter region (the beginning of gene). The sequence downstream to the promoter region is known as the transcription unit. This sequence is transcribed into the mRNA and forms primary transcript.
