To compare:
The relative rates at which mitosis and cytokinesis occur
Introduction:
The given diagram depicts a cell cycle. Cells reproduce by a cycle of growing and dividing called the cell cycle. There are three main stages of a cell cycle; interphase, mitosis and cytokinesis.A cell cycle has built in checkpoints that monitor the cycle and can stop the cycle if something goes wrong. There are three checkpoints; G1, G2 and M to control the speed at which a cell moves through a cell cycle.
Answer to Problem 13STP
From the given diagram it is clear that a cell takes almost double time for mitosis than cytokinesis.
Explanation of Solution
The following diagram is given.
According to the diagram we can see that a cell takes up most of the time for interphase. Almost one- sixth of the time is taken for stages of mitosis and cytokinesis combined. The rest of the time, the cell is in interphase (G1, S and G2) stage. A cell takes more time (almost double) for mitosis as compared to cytokinesis.
