Interpretation:
The type of bond between each pair of given atoms is to be determined.
Concept introduction: Electronegativity of an atom is its tendency to attract the shared pair of electrons in a bond towards itself. As we go down the group electronegativity decreases as the size of atom increases. As we go across the period, electronegativity increases as the size of atom decreases.
The ionic bond is a bond formed by complete transfer of electrons from one atom to the other.
Covalent bond is a bond formed by sharing of electrons between the atoms. Polar covalent bond is a covalent bond in which the bonding electrons are shifted towards more electronegative atom in the bond.
