Chapter 9, Problem 1A
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The reason for the coefficient of a balanced chemical equation is not directly interpreted on the basis of mass, needs to be explained.

Concept Introduction :

The property of a physical object whichmeasures the amount of matter it comprises is known as mass. Contrasting to the weight, the mass of somewhat stays the same irrespective to the place.

Answer to Problem 1A

In chemical reaction the reactants are combining in molar ratio not by mass ratio. So, although can suitably measure in the laboratory, the coefficient of a balanced equation is not directly interpreted on the basis of mass.

Explanation of Solution

The relative number of molecules is obtained from the co-efficient in the balanced equation. Because atoms are not created or destroyed in a chemical reaction. Here in a balanced equation the same number of each type of atom present on both sides.

In chemical reaction the reactants are combining in molar ratio not by mass ratio. So, although can suitably measure in the laboratory, the coefficient of a balanced equation is not directly interpreted on the basis of mass.
