Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Answer to Problem 1FP

The limitation of the z test is that population variance should be known.

The t test is used as an alternative for z test that does not have any limitation.

Explanation of Solution

Justification: The main limitation of the z test is that the population variance should be known. If there is not information about the population variance the z test cannot be used.

The t test is similar to the z test. In t test sample variance is replaced with population variance for estimating the standard error. When the population standard deviation is not known t test is used in place of z test.

Hence, the t test is used as an alternative for z test when the population variance is unknown.
