Chapter 9, Problem 5MC
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Mitotic cell division is a method by which a single cell divides into two daughter cells. The two daughter cells each receive the genetic material present in the single parent cell. This duplication of a single cell into two occurs by a series of stages that is the life cycle of every single cell. The life cycle of every single cell begins and ends with cell division. Mitosis is subdivided into five stages: Prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.

In the mitosis experiment, in what stage were most of the onion root tip cells in? Based on what you know about cell cycle division, what does this imply about the life span of a cell? Were there any stages of the cell cycle that you did not observe?
