The chromosomes are formed by the packing of the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) onto the protein molecules. Most of the sexually reproducing organisms are diploid that is they have two sets of chromosomes in a cell. Each set of the chromosomes has a similar chromosome number. The same chromosomes of the two sets are known as homologous pair.
