Question
Chapter 9, Problem 7P
Summary Introduction
Interpretation:
The reason for a plant engineered to express green fluorescent protein when grown in ordinary garden soil and watered normally, will glow in the dark, whereas a plant engineered to express fire fly luciferase will not.
Introduction:
Green fluorescent protein GFP was isolated from the jelly fish in1992, this protein is used as a tag or a marker for the detection of a particular protein. The GFP requires UV light for activation and this protein is important because it does not require any interactive molecule for its function. Luciferase gene was isolated from firefly and it does not need any source of light for its expression but requires a substrate for activation.
