Manager’s trust and job-related tension. Research published in Accounting, Organizations and Society (Vol. 19, 1994) investigated whether the effects of different performance evaluation styles (PES) on the level of job-related tension is affected by trust. Three performance evaluation styles were considered. Each is related to the way in which accounting information is used for the purpose of evaluation. The three styles are budget-constrained (BC), profit-conscious (PC), and the nonaccounting style (NA), which focuses on factors such as quality of output and attitude toward the job. Consider a questionnaire (similar to the one used in the study) administered to 200 managers. It measures the performance evaluation style of each manager’s superior (on a 10-point scale), the manager’s job-related tension, and the manager's level of trust (low, medium, and high) in his or her superior. These data were used to produce the partial ANOVA table and table of treatment means shown next.
- a. Describe the treatments of this study.
- b. Complete the ANOVA table.
- c. Investigate the presence of an Interaction effect by conducting the appropriate hypothesis test using α = .05.
- d. Use a plot of treatment means to investigate the interaction effect. Interpret your results. Are your results of parts c and d consistent?
- e. Given your answers to parts c and d, should the F-tests for the two main effects be conducted?

- How will marketers change their social media use in the near future? A survey by Social Media Examiner reported that 77% of B2B marketers (marketers that focus primarily on attracting businesses) plan to increase their use of LinkedIn, as compared to 54% of B2C marketers (marketers that primarily target consumers). The survey was based on 1,184 B2B marketers and 1,703 B2C marketers. - What is the step-step solution to this problem? Does posting calorie content for menu items affect people’s choices in fast-food restaurants? According to results obtained by Elbel, Gyamfi, and Kersh (2011), the answer is no. The researchers monitored the calorie content of food purchases for children and adolescents in four large fast-food chains before and after mandatory labeling began in New York City. Although most of the adolescents reported noticing the calorie labels, apparently the labels had no effect on their choices. Data similar to the results obtained show an average of M = 786 calories per meal with s = 85 for n = 100 children and adolescents before the labeling, compared to an average of M = 772 calories with s = 91 for a similar sample of n = 100 after the mandatory posting. Use a two-tailed test with a α .05 to determine whether the mean number of calories after the posting is significantly different than before calorie content was posted. 3. Do more creative store-window displays affect shopper behavior? Six main-street retailers selling everyday fashion items were used in the study. Pretests with shoppers showed the six stores to be comparable on brands and consumer perceptions of value for the money. Three of the retailers had more creative windows, in terms of displaying items in a more innovative and artistic manner versus the less creative windows, which had a more concrete focus on the items on display. All display windows were of similar dimensions. Observers, in close proximity but out of sight of shoppers, watched their behavior as they passed the display windows, and for each shopper the observers recorded whether the shopper looked at the window or entered the store. A total of 863 shoppers passed the more creative windows and 971 passed the less creative windows. The study found that a higher percentage of shoppers looked at and entered the stores with the more…arrow_forwardThe success of an airline depends heavily on its ability to provide a pleasant customer experience.
