Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The resonance formulas for given molecule has to be written and the NN bond length in the molecule is estimated.
Concept introduction:
Resonance formula:
The electron structure of a given molecule contains delocalized bonding via possible structure of all electron-dot formulas is known as resonance description.
One form of resonance stable structure is converted into other forms. It possible in both single and multiple bonds molecule. The electron-dot formulas differing only in the placement of single and double bonds
Lewis structure otherwise known as Lewis dot diagrams or electron dot structures that show the bond between atoms and lone pairs of electrons that are present in the molecule. Lewis structure represents each atom and their position in structure using the chemical symbol. Excess electrons forms the lone pair are given by pair of dots, and are located next to the atom.

- Write all resonance structures of chlorobenzene, C6H5Cl, a molecule with the same cyclic structure as benzene. In all structures, keep the CCl bond as a single bond. Which resonance structures are the most important?arrow_forwardNitrosyl azide, N4O, is a pale yellow solid first synthesized in 1993. Write the Lewis structure for nitrosyl azide.arrow_forwardn your own words, what is meant by the term electronegativity? What are the trends across and down the periodic table for electronegativity? Explain them, and describe how they are consistent with trends of ionization energy and atomic radii.arrow_forward
- Using the standard enthalpy of formation data in Appendix G, show how the standard enthalpy of formation of HCl(g) can be used to determine the bond energy.arrow_forwardConsider peroxynitrite (chemical formula: ONOO−), a structural isomer of the nitrate anion. It is generated in the cell when nitric oxide (NO) reacts with the superoxide radical anion (O2-.). Peroxynitrite is a potent oxidant and nitrating agent and can lead to DNA and protein damage (this is the complete question) Draw the correct Lewis structure for peroxynitrite and indicate approximate bond angles. Tell how many molecular degrees of freedom of motion are present in peroxynitrite and what motions they correspond to.arrow_forwardConsider the reaction 2 S(g) + 3 O2(g) → 2 SO3(g).
