To determine:
Definition of the terms cell cycle, interphase, mitosis, cytokinesis, chromosome, chromatin.
Explanation of Solution
Cell cycle: It is a sequence of events that take place in the cells. It starts when the parent cell is completely divided to form a new cell and ends when the cell itself is divided into daughter cells.
Interphase: It is the first phase of the cell cycle. It is the first phase in which the cells grow and prepare for the division. It is the resting phase of the cells.
Mitosis: It is defined as the division of the somatic cells to form two new daughter cells. In mitosis, one cell divides into two genetically identical cells having an equal number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
Cytokinesis: Cytokinesis is the step after the division of the nucleus in which the cytoplasm of the parent cells is divided into daughter cells resulting in a complete division of the cell into two.
Chromosome: The DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is the genetic material of all the living organisms present on earth. The chromosomes are condensed thread-like structure of the DNA, which contains the genes of the organisms.
Chromatin: The chromosomes are made up of chromatin. It can be described as a material made up of DNA, RNA and proteins in eukaryotes.
