Introduction:

The waves in which the particles moves perpendicular to the propagation of wave are called transverse wave.

The waves in which the particles move in a longitudinal manner in the direction of propagation are called longitudinal wave.

A transverse wave from the spring can be generated by holding the spring end to end. The end to end holding of spring will stop horizontal motion of spring thus making the transverse wave.

In other hand for generating longitudinal wave hold the spring from ends and release it after squeezing. The spring will travel in longitudinal manner.
