Mrs. Jones challenged her class with the following problem.
Create an open-topped box with the greatest possible volume by cutting congruent squares from each corner of a 8" × 11" piece of construction paper.
1) Express the dimensions of the box in terms of x.
2) Write a formula to represent the volume of the box as a function of x. Write the answer in standard form.3) Use the function to find the dimensions that will give the greatest possible volume.
If the function y = e4x is vertically compressed by a factor of 5, reflected across the x-axis, and then shifted down 4 units, what is the resulting function? Write your answer in the form y = ceax+ b.
In our modern era, digital television is a norm, and most homes have HDTVs. HDTVs are usually rectangular in shape and have a standard aspect ratio of 16:9. Please respond to the following questions. (See rubric below.)
3. Derive a formula for the area of the screen of an HDTV as a function of only the height of the screen.
4. Derive a formula for the diagonal of the screen as a function of the height of the screen.
5. Derive a formula for the diagonal of the screen as a function of the area of the screen.
6. Illustrate with a graph the relationship between the diagonal and the area of the screen. Please make sure your graph is appropriately labeled.
7. What is the diagonal if the area is 2,823 ?
The problem is I'm not sure what I should be doing to solve this problem. Right now, my answer for question 3 is A=(9/16*h)*h or A=9/16h*h2. If that is correct, then I think I should be fine with the rest of the problem. Otherwise, I don't know what else to do.
