Projectile Motion Lab Alyssa Knott Phys-118-001 Studio Section 502 An experiment was conducted using a spring-loaded projectile device, where a projectile was vertically launched into the air. This experiment was conducted multiple times, at the same launch angle, in order to reduce error. From the experiment, data of initial velocity (v 0 ), range (R) and time of flight (T) were recorded. Calculations of launch angle (θ) and uncertainties were found by plotting R vs. T*(v 0 ) and analyzing the trendline information and calculated data from the chart. Uncertainty was included within the chart as well. The equations of R and T were derived to empirically find the launch angle of the experiment. Useful equations of R and T assisted in calculating our launch angle. R = v 0 cos(θ)T T = 2v 0 sin(θ) / g Projectile R (m) T (s) v 0 (m/s) 1 262 ± 5 5.6 ± 0.1 52 ± 2 2 80 ± 5 3 ± 0.1 28 ± 2 3 192 ± 5 5 ± 0.1 45 ± 2 4 118 ± 5 3.9 ± 0.1 35 ± 2 5 176 ± 5 4.6 ± 0.1 42 ± 2 When the data from our chart was put into the formula, the launch angle was calculated to be 27.9º ± 3º.
