In what consisted of the Coalición , and why was it established? Coalición consisted of both the Partido Socialista and Partido Republicano. 5. What "liberal/progressive" measures did Governor Tugwell implemented in Puerto Rico? Governor Tugwell implemented an plan for the urbanization and industrial development in Puerto Rico. 6. Who was Luis Muñoz Marín? Luis Muñoz Marín was an advocate who struggled and fought for colonial reformism. He was president of the senate and soon later the first appointed governor of Puerto Rico. 7. Discuss the different stages of Operation Bootstraps There were important aspects of Operation Bootstrap. The first allowed American industries to relocate to the island. Then, the island implemented a school curriculum similar to the United States, it implemented English-learning courses. Lastly, it caused the emigration of Puerto Ricans to the states, including New York and Florida. 8. How did the PIP (Puerto Rican Independent Party) originate? The Puerto Rican Independent Party originated due to Marín’s announcement that he no longer was an independista and therefore embraced noncolonial association. 9. What is Law 53 (Gag Law)? This law made it illegal to “advocate the violent overthrow of the government of the United States.”
10. What kind of role did the CGT (General Workers Confederation) in the modernization of the labor union infrastructure and the Puerto Rican economy's modernization? The General Workers Confederation (CGT) played an important role in modernizing the labor union by fighting and striking against the sugar industry in Puerto Rico. Through the fight, the CGT resulted in the rise of the minimum wage pay of the workers. 11. What is the Taft-Harley Act of 1947? The Taft-Harley Act of 1947 restricted labor activism and anticommunist dispositions. 12. What are Law 500 Acres, and how it helped the distribution of land and land ownership for the poor? The 500-acre Law stated that corporations could not own more than 500 acres of Puerto Rican land. This law helped make sure that no one took too much land and allowed for the ownership of the land by the poor.
