Prior to beginning to work on this discussion, read Chapter 1: Introduction to Global Marketing. Make sure that you have a good grasp of the following key terms and theories: global marketing marketing mix competitive advantage product/market expansion framework driving forces affecting global marketing restraining forces affecting global marketing There is a saying in the business world that “nothing fails like success.” Take Gap, for example. How can a fashion retailer that was once the source for wardrobe staples such as chinos and white t-shirts suddenly lose its marketing edge? Motorola also fell victim to its own success. The company’s Razr cell phone was a huge hit, but Motorola struggled to leverage that success. Google acquired Motorola Mobility but then sold it to Lenovo in 2014. Also, Starbucks former CEO Howard Shultz warned that his company and brand risked becoming commoditized. And, as noted in Case 1-3 of the textbook, some industry observers say that Apple “lost its cool” (Green & Keegan, 2020, p.29). For your initial post, Pick from one of the six companies named above. From a global marketing standpoint, use all the six terms or theories listed above to explain your analysis of their global marketing failure or decline. Throughout your initial post, bold and underline each of the six terms and theories you use to make them easy to identify. Assume you were consulted as the global marketing expert to make recommendations to management of that company. Analyze your top two recommendations. Your initial discussion post should be 250 words. Do not forget to cite your textbook and any other sources used to support your ideas. WSJ . https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB117763905320884365 While Motorola was selling countless Razrs, competitors were hard at work on more sophisticated products for 3G networks. Its work on 3G phones also faced problems. A semiconductor unit Motorola had spun off was having trouble developing new chips for 3G cell phones. That slowed work on them because Motorola had pledged to buy all cell phone chips from the spun-off unit through 2006. The deal also meant Motorola couldn't shop for cheaper chips elsewhere, squeezing profit margins of existing phones. Hartung, A. (2014, August 6). Global marketing Motorola continued to dominate the market with its products and services across the world with the introduction of walkie talkie devices for military use, cellular car phones, semiconductors, microprocessors and the most popular cellular device RAZR. Marketing mix Motorola invented mobile telephony, developing the cellular infrastructure as well as the mobile devices. Motorola also developed the base stations in offices and even the towers (and equipment on those towers) to allow for wireless communication to function (Hartung, 2014b). In Addition, one of Motorola’s best products was the super slim Motorola RAZR cellular phone. This product was desired by everyone mainly because it had an appealing look especially with the wide variety of colors that they came in. It was popular among many different age groups, Motorola had the product that everyone wanted to get their hands on.
