2.3 - Assignment: Getting to the Bottom of the Problem (PLG1)
TO: Jack Smith, Marketing Lead Executive
FROM: Oscar E. Murillo-Parra - Research Assistant; Global Marketing Department
DATE: October 19, 2021
SUBJECT: Global Travel Performance Study
In addition to having a major effect on the economy, the COVID-19 pandemic has also had an impact on a large number of businesses across the world, including those in the United States of America (USA). As a consequence, the travel industry has seen a substantial decline in income. Because of a steady decline in the number of reservations made through their websites since the middle of 2020, the online travel company Global Travel has suffered losses, However, as compared to the losses experienced by other online travel reservation firms, these losses have not been severe and may perhaps be deemed minor in nature.
According to MarketBeat.com, "Global Travel shares was trading at $15.39 on March 9th, 2020, only a few days before the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 to be a pandemic virus." Since then, the stock has risen by 82.1 percent and is now trading at $33.19, providing us with a broad picture of the company's financial success.
This has resulted in a reduction in the company's digital footprint due to the fact that advertising for their services is no longer accessible on websites where they previously had a high level of activity and regular visitors.
A number of key factors must be included in this research proposal in order to
dissect and analyze them in order to minimize the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism sector. COVID-19 has had a major effect on the travel sector, which is a result of the pandemic. In order to finish the procedure, it will be required to fulfill the following stages:
1. Defining the Issue
2. Research Objectives
3. Planning the Research Design or Study Design
4. Sample Planning
5. Data Capture
6. Data Analysis
7. Conclusion, Report Preparation and Presentation

3. General Construction Company
General Construction Company has a contract to build three lower‐income apartment buildings for the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico. During the construction of the first building, the Project Manager formed an auditing team to audit the construction process for each building. He asked the team to develop a list of minimum requirements for the projects and use this as a baseline in the audit. While reviewing the contract documents, one of the audit team members found a discrepancy between the contract minimum requirements and the City’s minimum requirements. Based on his findings, he has told the project manager that he has decided to contact the city administrator and discuss the problem. Question: If you were the project manager, how would you handle this situation? How can a customer be assured of satisfactory project completion?

Problem 1. During your first month as an employee at Greenfield Industries (a large drill-
bit manufacturer), you are asked to evaluate alternatives for producing a newly designed
drill bit on a turning machine. Your boss' memorandum to you has practically no information
about what the alternatives are and what criteria should be used. The same task was posed
to a previous employee who could not finish the analysis, but she has given you the following
information: An old turning machine valued at $350,000 exists (in the warehouse) that can
be modified for the new drill bit. The in-house technicians have given an estimate of
$40,000 to modify this machine, and they assure you that they will have the machine ready
before the projected start date (although they have never done any modifications of this
type). It is hoped that the old turning machine will be able to meet production requirements
at full capacity. An outside company, McDonald Inc., made the machine seven years ago and

The year 5 values include salvage value. Heywood’s corporate cost of capital is 10 percent.
What is the project’s expected NPV on the basis of the scenario analysis?
What is the project’s standard deviation of NPV?
Assume that Heywood’s managers judge the project to have lower-than-average risk. Furthermore, the company’s policy is to adjust the corporate cost of capital up or down by 3 percentage points to account for differential risk. Is the project financially attractive?

Insurance Ltd. accepts payments on various insurance policies from employees of businesses across the island. These businesses deduct payments from employees’ salaries and pay the insurance company a lump sum each month. This total amount deducted is shown on each employee’s payslip. Deductions are due at the end of each month and each participating business submits one payment for its employees to the insurance company via online payments through the bank. However, if payments were received after 11:00 a.m., the bank does not process them until the next business day. At the beginning of each month an administrative assistant at MGMT Insurance Ltd. downloads the deductions for each company and allocates payments to the various policies. These payments include the client’s unique number along with his/her relevant policy numbers…

Case Problem Specialty ToysSpecialty Toys, Inc., sells a variety of new and innovative children’s toys and believes that the preholiday season is the best time to introduce a new toy. Many families use this time to look for new ideas for December holiday gifts. When Specialty has a new toy with good market potential, it chooses an October market entry date.
In order to get toys in its stores by October, Specialty places one-time orders with its manufacturers in June or July of each year. Demand for children’s toys can be highly volatile. If a new toy catches on, a sense of shortage in the marketplace often increases the demand to very high levels and large profits can be realized. On the other hand, new toys can also flop, leaving Specialty stuck with high levels of inventory that must be sold at reduced prices. The most important question the company faces is deciding how many units of a new toy should be purchased to meet expected sales demand. If too few are purchased, sales will be…
