Tips for a Successful Assignment
A.
Planning
i)
Ensure that you are clear about the instructions and expectations for the assignment.
ii)
Ensure you understand the concepts focused by the assignment (and provided in the course materials).
iii)
Before you start composing your assignment, you may want to prepare an outline
mapping out all the information you collected and how it fits in the assignment topics (and structure) you must cover.
B.
Pacing the work
i)
Estimate how much time you plan to allocate to planning, drafting, and revising your assignment.
ii)
In the planning phase, you may want to have a time interval between collecting and triaging information. This will ensure you will not rush in using information that may not be useful, or using it solely due to time constraints as opposed to the worth of its content.
C.
Organising your assignment

Case STUDY ANALYSIS
CREATION OF A NEW PROJECT
Our Head of quality (that we will call Mr L.) suggested that the company needed to improve the planning and scheduling of the machining and tooling department.
All companies that have machine production do this, and we already had someone scheduling this department (Mr M.), but we needed someone that could do it much more in detail and ahead of time.
Eventually, the supervisor of the machining department(Mr S.) was elected to be the best person for this job, so the CEO of the company decided that Mr M. had to train Mr S. and explain the method he followed for the planning.
Mr M. is known to be someone that likes to work the way he wants to work! In other words, he is not known for being someone that listens to other people’s opinion, so Mr S. (much younger) had some difficulty getting information out of Mr M.
This problem had been planned. In fact, before this project started there had been at least two separate meetings, one together with…

Where work for the pass standard is marginal, assessors can take account of any extension work completed by the learners. The suggested evidence listed below is how learners can demonstrate that they have met the required…

HRM Incident 2: Was There Enough Preparation?
“Hi, Sam. How are the preparations going for your assignment in Japan?”
“Well, Elvis, I really feel prepared for the assignment, and the high level of apprehension I first experienced is gone.”
“What exactly did the preparation program involve, Sam?”
“The experience was really exhaustive. First, I spent a good deal of time in a comprehensive orientation and training program. The program covered training and familiarization in the language, culture, history, living conditions, and local customs of Japan. Then, to make the transition back to home easier and better for my career, I have developed a plan with my boss that includes several trips back here to remain a key part of this operation. Also, my career development training will include the same training as the other managers in the home office. Finally, I was completely briefed on repatriation orientation and training that I would experience when I returned. Also, I was fully…

TOYS AND JOB DESIGN AT THE HOVEY AND BEARD COMPANY
The following is a situation that occurred in the Hovey and Beard Company, as reported by J. V.
Clark.
This company manufactured a line of wooden toys. One part of the process involved
spray painting partially assembled toys, after which the toys were hung on moving hooks that
carried them through a drying oven. The operation, staffed entirely by women, was plagued with
absenteeism, high turnover, and low morale. Each woman at her paint booth would take a toy
from the tray beside her, position it in a fixture, and spray on the color according to the required
pattern. She then would release the toy and hang it on the conveyor hook. The rate at which the
hooks moved had been calculated so that each woman, once fully trained, would be able to hang
a painted toy on each hook before it passed beyond her reach.
The women who worked in the paint room were on a group incentive plan that tied their
earnings to the…

What training methods should be used to train the supervisors, assuming approval of the proposal?
Carol Burgess is a letter carrier and a part-time trainer of letter carriers for the U.S. Postal Service in a major city on the west coast. She trains all new letter carriers in her service area, which encompasses the northern half of her state. Over the past five years she has trained 318 new letter carriers. Typically, the training is offered prior to the new letter carrier’s entry onto the job, although sometimes it occurs shortly thereafter. The training program typically encompasses both the orientation of new employees to the U.S. Postal Service and the development of specific skills needed by the new letter carrier. The latter involves practice in casing mail (i.e., sorting) to appropriate locations of a case in preparation for delivery, reading maps, determining appropriate sequencing of delivery, and customer relations. The total training program takes three full days (one day of…
