The Individual Education Plan (IEP) is the legal document that steers the education of a student with a disability. There are five requirements in each IEP. In your own words, what are these five? a. Document of the child’s present levels of academic achievement and functional performance also known as PLOP or PLAAFP. b. Measurable annual goals, including academic and functional goals. c. Proof of how the child is making progress towards meeting their annual goals, which needs to be measured and have periodic reports on the progress. d. Need to know the special education and related services and supplementary aids and services, that are based on peer-reviewed research. e. It is like an IEP but for younger children. 5. At age 16 the IEP is required to have a transition plan. What is the purpose of this plan? Transition plans are to help disabled students to promote movement from school to post
secondary education, vocational training, integrated employment. Also to help them to continue with adult education, adult services, independent living and community participation. 6. Briefly describe how each of these play a role in special education placement models: a. General education teacher: they consult with a special educator to acquire special materials, equipment or methods. They also get trained by coaches to use other resources oro methods and can co-teach with special educators to provide instruction and emphasize instruction with exceptional students. b. Resource teacher and resource room: resource teachers provide special services for students and teachers in a school. They are always assessing the needs of the students alone or in small groups in a resource room. Resource rooms have special materials and equipment for the students. c. Least restrictive environment is a legal term that states that exceptional children have to be taught in a normal environment. Not only does it keep the students with other students like them, it can also help them learn better. 8.
