Module Two Question 1 Describe one of the beliefs and values of the Navajo as illustrated in your readings. I found their belief of "talking things over is the way to straighten out troubles" very interesting. Something I actually believe myself. While I dont think words can solve every issue, I find it intriguing that they come together and have a conversation about what will actually solve this issue rather than just enforce a punishment straight away, all thanks to a mutual respect among the group. Module Two Question 2 Describe one way in which the Navajo have incorporated their beliefs and values into the societal structure on the reservation since regaining some autonomy in the 1970's. Sticking with the theme of law, "Fundamental Laws of the Diné," is one way they have began to incorporate Traditional customs back into the court system. Making it so judges must consider these laws in the process of judgment. Module Two Question 3 What beliefs and values can be found in your culture? How do these beliefs and values influence your day-to-day life? Equality is a big one that hasn't always been acted upon in the way it should have, since it seems to be held in such high regard, as can be seen in this article. But it's imperative to be able to have the best built and maintained society. Although not everyone believes in equality and acts that way, it makes for a more enriched and substantial life experience. When you can openly discuss your values and beliefs without fear of persecution, as well as the person sitting next to you, no matter who that may be, it leads to more problem solving and understanding thought-out an entire population in their day to day lives. Module Two Question 4 Adopt the social science perspective to create a list of questions about this issue. Write at least two questions each from the point of view of a psychologist, a sociologist, and an anthropologist.
Psychologist 1. How does social media, for an hour a day, affect the mental well-being of the participant? 2. Can excessive social media use lead to a negative effect of one's self image and self worth? Sociologist 1. Does excessive social media use lead to a decrease in one's ability to communicate with other people in daily life? 2. Does excessive social media use lead to less interaction with people around you? Anthropologist 1. Has social media made us come together more as people, or driven us farther apart and into more sub-groups? 2. Has the change social media made in the way we communicate helped with that communication, or worsened it?
