Needs Analysis:
Introduction:
Needs analysis (also known as needs assessment) has an essential role in the process of designing and carrying out any language course, whether it be English for Specific Purposes (ESP) or general English course.
However, ‘what distinguishes ESP from General English is not the existence of needs but the awareness of the needs’(53). The main difference is that ESP learners are conscious of their needs, Since it deals with the adult learners who are already either aware or have previous expectations of what they are going to learn.
A- Defining Needs analysis:
Needs analysis or needs assessment is considered to be the main driving factor in ESP course design and materials development . needs analysis defined by

According to this model Learner needs are approached from two subdivisions; target needs and learning needs. and learning needs refers to “what the learner needs to do in order to learn”.
Figure 01 represents these notions in order to have a clear vision of this model.

- Target needs:
Target needs refers to “what the learner needs to do in the target situation”, it is a study of the situations in which the language is used. This provides a guide as to what language to teach in our case it would be English for computing students.
Necessities, Lacks and Wants:
When attempting to define what the term "need" means, first of all, most specialists agree that this word can convey different meanings according to the situation and the different sides involved in the E.S.P course whether being learners, sponsors or teachers.
In order to distinguish between different meanings, target needs are classified into three groups: “necessities, lacks and wants” (p.60).

This unit aims to enable learners to understand the learning process and to give them the skills they need to
During lessons it may become apparent that a learner has a specific need that requires help such as financial guidance, bereavement, dyslexia, or help with maths/English skills.
Basic needs: There should be access to basic needs such as, toilets washing facilities and drinking water. These need to be located close to the classroom.
Our organisation’s scheme of work designed according to internal and external requirements. Their internal requirements such as needing to follow their syllabus, consider learners needs; such as, learning difficulties, language barriers, cultural issues, etc. I need to embed minimum core requirements. Also learners take possession of their own learning, make sense of new experiences and understand how they learn, identify and understand barriers to learning and where they can find support to remove them, measure their own success, understand how vocational learning, personal and social development and when it comes to real-life tasks, motivate themselves by capturing their progress and achievements and helping them to develop a clear understanding of what they need to do next to progress further.
In this paper I will complete a needs assessment and explain how I used the assessment to help complete my course project. By doing so, I hope to help the reader understand the process involved in developing a training strategy to address the needs that will be identified.
A needs assessment encourages supportive relationships to reduce the risk of abuse and neglect, a demonstration of a needs assessment is as follows: Needs assessment is the key to ensuring that the required range and capacity of services is available and accessible to service users and their families in a local area. A good need assessment process will:

As a teacher/trainer, there are certain roles and responsibilities that you have when it comes to the needs of learners. Teachers/trainers should look to the teaching and learning cycle as this contains an outline
A driving objective for a teacher is to affect students to advance their expertise in education by finding them the correct course. The teacher should promote positive motivation and inspiration by adhering to legislation and codes of practice which will increase every student’s focus in developing and bridging gaps to display eagerness towards a healthy broad mindset, creative thinking and brighter approach. A mentor should coordinate assessments which will reinforce the ability to perceive individuals’ abilities and knowledge progressions and moreover support them further to boost their learning capacity to acquire a well-established national standards skill set.
Learners’ particular literacy, language, numeracy and ICT needs can be established through initial assessment, talking to learners, observing them completing activities or using simple self assessment tests.
It is important that you identify the needs of your learners so you can design the course to reflect individual differences. Although this is usually described as the first stage in the teaching/training cycle it is a process that may have to be deferred until you meet your learners for the first time and usually should be a continuing requirement throughout the learning journey. However, some organisations interview their learners before the course, or there may be an application process where learner needs can be identified.
According to Lepak & Gowan (2010), needs assessment identifies the gaps that exist between what employees should be doing and what they are actually doing, and it can narrow and fill these gaps based on supporting company’s strategic goals and adding values to the company. In Lepak & Gowan (2010), three analyses should be carried out step by step to locate the gaps among the company’s management structure from top to bottom: (1) organization analysis: determines a company’s progress toward achieving its goals and objectives; (2) task analysis: identifies
At the same time in order for the learning to be effective it needs to engage with the goals of the individual learner in terms of personal development or career development.
Needs are the basic human requirements; people need food, air, water, clothing, and shelter to survive and also have strong needs for creation (through sexual intercourse), education, and entertainment.
