Human services professionals are those who facilitate and empower those in society who require assistance in meeting their basic human needs both emotionally, mentally, and physically. Human services professionals work with diverse cultures in many different settings to provide prevention, education, and resources for individuals, families, groups and communities. Some of the populations served are, children and families, adolescents, and the homeless. To support groups in crisis human services professionals must be committed, patient, possess listening skills, and have an ability to be empathetic without reducing one’s ability to be empowered (Martin, 2011). Putting food on the table may become a difficult task putting the family at risk for hunger (Martin, 2011).
Ways in which human services professionals can meet the needs of families and children are to actively listen to each individual’s perception of the problem and address each issue. If the worker is qualified to provide counseling sessions, such as a marriage and family therapist, single members in addition to the family as a whole should receive services. Referrals should be given to the family if the worker cannot provide counsel (Martin, 2011). A family social worker can assist in providing resources for food, medical, housing, child care and utility assistance, support in filling out appropriate paperwork should be offered as well. Professionals can offer referrals to legal assistance offices in order for a single parent to obtain child support. Informing those in this population of the means for furthering their education can help them regain their independence. A school social worker may be appropriate for those children suffering in their academics due to family matters so they can provide support for the child and to determine what further resources are needed (O*Net Online, 2010). Child welfare investigators as well as health care social workers may have to provide investigations as well as working with other professionals to assess patients' medical or physical condition
Poor working conditions is where a member of staff is working in a condition which is unacceptable to work in such as mould on the walls which could cause the service users to become ill another example could be if the rooms were cold, the service users could become severely ill causing pneumonia or death.
Communication can be used in many ways by using different methods. Individuals from different backgrounds can communicate by doing whatever is comfortable to them, whether it’s communicating in their own language or if they can’t verbally communicate they may use sign language. Individuals could use body language and facial expressions to express their needs or what they would like.
The duties performed by social and human services workers are varied. They can work in a number of different fields including psychology, social work, rehabilitation, and support for families in need (BLS, 2012a). Often, they help to identify the needs of clients and help them obtain available benefits, community services, and programs. There are several other job categories that are closely related including rehabilitation counselors, psychiatric technicians, personal care aides, and eligibility interviewers for government programs (BLS, 2012a). I wish to pursue a career in the psychology and rehabilitation field of the human services category. This population is of great interest to me because of experiences with friends and family. I find this category of human services to be the most interesting and I have a strong desire
A. There are many potential barriers to communication such as language barriers, it can be hard to communicate with someone who does not understand your language or vice versa. I conducted an in person interview at Deaconess Cross Pointe, 7200 East Indiana Street; Evansville, Indiana 47715. I interviewed Natalie Goffinett, who has achieved her Master’s Degree in Social Work, and counsel’s children and families at that facility. When setting the appointment to interview Ms. Goffinett, I offered her the option to conduct the interview either in person or over the telephone. Ms. Goffinett and I agreed that an in person interview would be best if I wanted to have the opportunity to tour the facilities, as well as develop a sense for inpatient and outpatient environments. Deaconess Cross Pointe is a
In this report I’m going to describe the five stages of the life cycle and the anticipated development processes in which occur throughout each stage. I will also look at a service user whom I have cared for in the past and describe the needs associated with their own development. I will also describe how my knowledge and understanding of TWO contrasting psychological perspectives will inform my practice in the workplace.

1. Explain how and why person-centred values must influence all aspects of health and social work
Over the year both positive and negative influences have influenced my learning. The skill I have developed for learning is my aspiration is to become a midwife, this influences my learning in the way that it gives me the hunger to learn new things and improve my knowledge and grades. By improving my knowledge I will be able to go onto the next stage of my development. I believe that if I did not have such a desire to be a midwife, it would affect my learning by creating a mental blockage which would stop my ability to take things in and learn as I would become lazy and not interested from the lack of direction in my life. As soon as I realised what I wanted to do as a career, it really highlighted my priorities and I found that I have

A non-communicable disease (NCD) is defined as a disease which is not infectious. Such diseases may result from genetic or lifestyle factors. Such diseases may result from genetic or lifestyle factors. Current evidence indicates that four types of NCDs (i.e. cardiovascular diseases, cancers, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases) account for almost two third of all deaths globally, with 80 per cent of these deaths occurring in low-income and middle-income countries. NCDs are a leading threat to health and development. Yet, these diseases are preventable. By eliminating shared risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and the harmful use of alcohol, almost 80 per cent of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes and over a third of all cancers could be prevented. In addition, improved disease management can reduce morbidity, disability and death and contribute to better health outcomes. Overall, proven cost-effective strategies do exist to prevent and control this growing burden.
Honesty is something I value in another person, and I have struggled with service users who haven’t been honest about something. I have tried hard to understand the reasons why someone would not be honest with me. Usually after I have spoken to another member of staff, and heard their input and theories I can begin to see why and move on from the incident.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the U.S. government’s principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves.
