Cybersecurity survey. The information systems organization, ISACA, conducts an annual survey of cybersecurity at firms from around the world. ISACA sends survey questionnaires via email to all professionals that hold ISACA’s Certified Information Security Manager designation. Over 1,500 professionals participated in the 2015 cybersecurity survey, of which 766 responded to a question on whether or not they expect to experience a cyberattack (e.g., a Malware, hacking, or phishing attack) against their firm in the coming year. About 82% of the respondents expect to experience a cyberattack during the year (State of Cybersecurity: Implications for 2015, ISACA and RSA Conference Survey).
- a. Identify the population of interest to ISACA.
- b. Identify the data-collection method used by ISACA. Are there any potential biases in the method used?
- c. Describe the variable measured in the ISACA survey. Is it quantitative or qualitative?
- d. What inference can be made from the study result?

But how widespread is hazing, and, in fact, what constitutes hazing anyway? One study tried to get an objective handle on this persistent college phenomenon by carrying out a large survey of college and university students on 53 campuses. The study leaders defined hazing as "any activity expected of someone joining or participating in a group that humiliates, degrades, abuses, or endangers them regardless of a person's willingness to participate." The two types of activities receiving the highest rate of participation overall were "participate in a drinking game" and "sing or chant by yourself or with a few selected team members in a public situation that is not related to the event, game, or practice." The table below shows the sample sizes for those responding and the proportions for each activity across a variety of typical campus groups. In comparing these groups, regard the…arrow_forward

According to the 2016- 17 Australian Plastics Recycling Survey, the term ‘recycling’ is used in the plastics industry “to cover a range of activities including collection, sorting, reprocessing, export for reprocessing and manufacture of new products.” In order to avoid double-counting materials, survey data is typically collected on the reprocessing stage, which is the stage where waste plastics are converted into a new product (may be finished or semi-finished).arrow_forward

"Physicians Get into the Weight-Loss Business." Florida Today, July 7, 2008.] A physician conducted an experimental study to compare the effectiveness of four different weight-loss programs. In the study, 60 obese adults were randomly assigned to the four programs so that each program had 15 adults. The programs lasted for six months. The weights of the subjects were measured before and after the programs, and each subject's weight loss was computed in pounds. The following table summarizes the results of the study, giving the number of observations and the sample mean and variance of the subjects' weight loss in each program. Treatment…arrow_forward

Complete parts (a) and (b) below. (a) Are the events "have a Bachelor's Degree" and "never married" independent? Explain. The probability of the event "have a Bachelor's Degree" is affected by the occurrence of the event "never married", and the probability of the event "never married" is affected by the occurrence of the event "have a Bachelor's Degree", so the events are not independent. (b) Suppose a woman in the country aged 25 years or older is randomly selected. What is the probability she has a Bachelor's Degree and has never married? Interpret this probability.
